Our VP 549ETOH-4 and VP 549H2O-4 Spillway Reservoirs are widely used reservoirs that keep the fluid height relatively constant while also being continuously refreshed throughout the procedure. The wash solution flows into the Reservoir through the inlet port, and the excess liquid flows over the spillway and is removed through the outlet port. The wash solution can be recirculated using a peristaltic pump, collected for reuse, or drained into a disposal system.

The Spillway Reservoirs have an SBS footprint (127.7 mm x 85.5 mm) and they are very reasonably priced. They are provided in 2 versions because the solutions typically used have different surface tensions. For ethanol, isopropanol, methanol and DMSO wash solutions, the VP 549ETOH-4 Reservoir is recommended. For aqueous wash solutions, the VP 549H2O-4 Reservoir should be used.

The VP549ETOH-4 and VP 549H2O-4 are particularly useful for washing Pin Tool pins before, during, and/or after Pin Tool procedures. Both the VP 549ETOH-4 and VP 549H2O-4 Reservoirs will accommodate any format that is SBS-dimensioned or smaller, including 1536 Pin Tools or pipette tips. Another advantage relates to the displacement of wash solution by the pins during washing and loss of that solution over the spillway. The Spillway Reservoirs are filled automatically when the pins are removed.

Another feature of the VP 549ETOH-4 and VP 549H2O-4 Reservoirs is flexibility with regard to configuration of the inlet and outlet ports. Both Reservoirs come with threaded holes for two inlet/outlet pairs. The first pair is along one long side.

The second inlet/outlet pair are on the two opposing short ends. A set of screw-in plugs is provided with each Reservoir so the configuration that is best suited for the particular application can be used. Two polypropylene elbow fittings are also included for flexibility in positioning the inlet and outlet hoses.

The VP 549ETOH-4 and VP 549H2O-4 Reservoirs have 2 guide pins along one long side. These pins allow placement of our Blotting Media Supports (either VP 540A for 96 wells, or VP 540B2 for 384 wells) plus the accompanying Lint-Free Blotting Media (either VP 540AC for 96 wells, or VP 540BC-1 for 384 wells) over the reservoirs. This feature can greatly facilitate washing and blotting of Pin Tools, particularly when robotic deck positions are limited.
